ADVISORY: PORTION OF DEKALB AVE./WEST HOWARD AVE. TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE FOR
CONSTRUCTION AT MARTA’S EAST LAKE STATION
MARTA
to Install New Pedestrian Bridge on North Side of Rail Station This Weekend
ATLANTA – The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) will be installing a new pedestrian bridge at East Lake Station this weekend, which will require a temporary road closure during construction.
DeKalb Avenue/West Howard Avenue between
Melrose Avenue and Ridgecrest Road will temporarily close from 8 p.m. on
Friday, July 12 to 4 a.m. on Monday, July 15.
Detour signs will guide rerouted traffic, with an off-duty officer present during work hours. This closure spans the sidewalk, road, and Stone Mountain PATH Trail. Pedestrians and cyclists should use College Avenue as an alternative.
MARTA customer access and parking will remain available on the south side of the station. Please be aware of the following MARTA service changes during this closure weekend:
- Local bus route 19 will be detoured, but routes 2 and 34 will not be affected.
- Rail service will be single tracking, possibly resulting in delays. Customers can visit
MARTA (itsmarta.com) for more service details.
- The MARTA Mobility shuttle servicing the north and south sides of the station will be inactive during the closure.
- The Station Soccer pitch in the north parking lot will be closed.
The project is part of MARTA's Station Rehabilitation Program, a multi-year renovation effort at all 38 rail stations. The East Lake Station project will feature a new elevator, improved lighting, flooring, and wall screening, in addition to the new north pedestrian bridge.
The south pedestrian bridge over College Avenue will be replaced later this year. More project details are available at
MARTA (itsmarta.com).
